We were asked to evaluate a siding repair at this house. As you will see in the video, dry rot has occurred in several areas. Since the owner is selling the house, the most cost-effective repairs are desired. One company recommend chiseling out all the dry rot and filling in the voids with Min Wax or some other substance. While filling the voids with Bondo or putty may work in some situations, we recommended replacing the FOUR main damaged sheets, on this house for two reasons: First, any filler that you use will not match the texture or appearance of the surrounding siding, plus the amount of filler needed on this project may end up costing more in labor alone! Second, the real estate transaction may fall through and the homeowner would end up having to repair it again. If something is worth paying for, shouldn't you expect quality? Otherwise you are just throwing money into the wind. I know it's hard to justify spending a lot of money (or even a little extra) on a house you are about to sell, but do you want to be the cussword in the new owner's house as he walks around and compains about all the cheap stuff you did? You know he'll tell all your neighbors (who you may keep in contact with after the sale) too. That would be awkward....My parents taught me to treat others the way I want others to treat me. I think the same thing goes for this kind of situation.
